Sewing

Good morning peeps. I'm slow off the mark today. I've been on the biggest sewing week in ages. And getting tons done. I'm not forsaking you for Facebook. Don't worry. It's too hip for me. In the mean time, posting might be sketchy the next week or so, lots going on here in PKMville. Don't forsake me ok?

Cut it out.

I'm working on my Bubble Gum Basics project. It's pure sunshine and happiness on a rainy day.Speaking of cutting stuff out, head over to Elizabeth's, she's sharing a wonderful pattern for a small quilt. It's completely cute.

Anne, again.

Anne was talking about her new bunny Abby the other day. Abby is helping her out with her new computer Brittney. You might recall Anne talking about her bunny room. Or you might recall me talking about it.
Well Anne, I have a rabbit as well. She's shyer than Abby. Maybe it's because she's French. But she was born in America. In fact she's a California Girl.

She's a bit petite for her breed, which can grow up to 14 pounds. I doubt Binnie would like me to reveal her weight, but I suspect its under 5 pounds.

She's a great help though. Really.

You can see that she often tires and requires a rest.. she's of a delicate nature. She has a flair for the dramatic as well.

Binnie can be a bit critical. Editing is her specialty. Plus she's somewhat of a taskmaster.

Ok, Binnie says back to work. Happy day peoples.

A Squirrel's Progress

I wish I had the same kind of drive and energy the squirrel has. Holy cow, look at that! That's some motivation. I on the other hand, can't get myself to settle in and actually do something. I resorted to a little vacuuming to fill the time, and then was embarrassed at how much dog fur had accumulated in the few short days since I vacuumed the last time. How are they not bald?
I have a perfectly good project on the wall ready to be sewn into rows, and I have piles of wonderful fabrics like the Bubblegum Basics that Barbara sent me and this really Sweet pile of Moda goodness that Lissa sent me. (Hey, did you know I know the Urban Chiks?)

I am constantly in awe of designers who come up with new designs that are fresh and inspiring over and over. I know it can't be as easy as they make it seem! Now I just need to move those ideas I have out of my head and down onto paper and start cutting some fabric! Have a good day people!

Pam is...

..referring to herself in the third person too much. Since she's joined Facebook. For a day. Pam might have to reevaluate that decision. Or she might need to set some rules for herself.
Until then Pam needs to get back in her sewing room. Pam says to have a good day peoples.

Chasing Rainbows

We've had some lovely wintery weather here in my neck of the woods. Friday morning found this vista out across the vineyards. Really breathtaking.
I went for a little visit with Frankie and we had a nice time nestled in her cozy apartment listening to the rain and the thunder, watching a million episodes of Bones and enjoying each other's company.
On the way home it was very stormy and I passed so many magical rainbows. Of course I always have my camera handy.

It's there.. you can barely see it.

Came home to a pot of gold. Thank you Brenda! I'm fueled and ready to get back in action!!!

Have a good day Peeps! xo

Alaska

Did anyone else collect those 50 State Quarters like I did? Frankie was young when it started and I thought it would be fun. Well she was in middle school and 21 when it finished, I don't know what the heck I was thinking. I had this booklet and she had a map to put the quarters in. I think maybe second year she was just dropping the quarters into the map box and that was it. Eventually we plucked the few quarters out and recycled the cardboard map. Each year it got harder and harder but I plugged along. I would be still searching for quarters well into the next year. Like this year. It's 2009 and I still had 3 quarters to find, then two and then just stinken Alaska.

Someone must be hoarding Alaska because it took forever. Last week I finally found Alaska.. it was like a miracle. The holy grail of coins for me. Done. Thank goodness. I've had it with coins.

Happy Valentine's Day

Greetings Peeps! Hope you're having a wonderful Valentine's Day!

Yesterday when I got home a big fat box was waiting for me. I couldn't imagine what it was...I hadn't ordered anything. Lo and behold it was a wonderful surprise Valentine from Kathy! It totally made my day. I haven't had a wonderful surprise like that in ages!!! How thoughtful, thanks Kathy!
I've been thinking a lot about Kathy .. I've been working all week on the quilt she designed for her new book and I'm ready to send it back to her. I feel so lucky to be a part of her project!
It's the weekend so more coffee, more sewing! Have a good one! xop

Dear Peet's Coffee

I love your French Roast coffee more than I have ever loved coffee, ever. It was love at first cup in 1978. I love it so much I have Peet's stock, bought on the day you went public. Nothing could have made me happier than your store opening in Livermore. The only thing I don't love is that your store is nearly always out of French Roast whole beans when I go in.
Thanks for being great coffee and an important part of my day.
Your friend, Pam

Stuff

This is simply a gratuitous picture of my china lilies taken last week. Man I love them so much. They look like sunshine to me. Yesterday I woke up and the whole back yard was frozen and all the roof lines that I could see were white with frost. It was beautiful. At 9am there was still frost on the shadowy half of my roof and the neighbor behind us. Everything was so sparkly. Rain again tonight and then through the rest of the week. Yeah. Since I finished up my quilt and put my piles of fabric away, I've been enjoying my cleared off table. I'm diligently working on Kathy's project, it needs to head out in the mail early next week.
One thing I've crabbed about to anyone here who would listen, is my lighting. I have a bunch of lamps in my room, but aside from the Ott light they're just lamps that aren't being used anymore in other rooms. Yesterday one burned out and I plucked it off the top of the book case to change the bulb. Cripes it was a 40 watt bulb. No wonder. We must have been out of larger watt bulbs when it burned out and I totally forgot. What a difference a few watts can make.

Hope you guys have a sparkly day.

The Ruiner

The squirrel has removed the whole top portion of my umbrella by now. I happened to catch him working on it and shot this blurry little video. It cracks me up.

Thank goodness I brought my laundry in, or that squirrel family would be wearing Bret's shirts!

Have a happy day peeps!

Sewing Frenzy

So peeps, how was the weekend? Mine was spent in a bit of a sewing frenzy. And if you have to be in a frenzy, isn't it nice to have some pretty fabrics to sew with? These are the latest offerings from RJR's Sumptuous Living by Robyn Pandolph. My dungeonous photo doesn't do them justice. The best part of the project is that it's for my friend Kathy's book. It's nice to have a new Celebrity to work with! I'm so lucky!
Ok, back to the sewing machine. We are expecting rain all week so it's perfect sewing weather!

Helpful Friends

Yesterday morning was nice and rainy, I really loved it. I was drinking my coffee and looking out in the backyard when I noticed that one of the patio umbrellas was really shaking. Up popped this fellows head.
We have two umbrellas out back, one up closer to the house over our little patio table and one at the edge of the patio over the bird baths. Usually by the second summer we replace one and rotate the older faded one to the bird bath area.
Apparently this fellow didn't like the faded umbrella. By this morning, he's managed to rip off most of that whole little top section.

I guess now I should be grateful I never found those amazing colorful umbrellas with lace and fringe that I've seen in the magazines.
Hope you peeps have a great weekend. xo

Do as I say..

And not as I do. Because see, I do this. Finally finishing up the Flight of Fancy quilt has me putting all the fabrics away. For a year they've been sitting on my counter in the sewing room. I should be organizing them, but I just caved and bought another tub and took everything off the table and jammed it in. In the article in Quilter's Home, Alex quotes me as saying "free yourself" as I force her to get rid of stuff, but apparently I'm just not that ruthless around here.

Well right now anyway.

More good reading

The weather is killing me folks. It's so wonderful and spring like outside, I can't make myself stay inside and sew. Thank goodness Phil says there's 6 more weeks of winter. Out here in California, we need it. In the meantime, we filled up the green waste can with plenty of leaves and weeds. I picked up some magazines this weekend. After Amy posted about a great bird quilt, I had to get the new American Patchwork and Quilting magazine to see it. Super cute. I can't wait to see the magic she works on it.
Had to pick up the latest Quilter's Home for a variety of reasons. First, of course, there are pictures of Alex's home in it. I know, I go there all the time, but I love seeing it through the eyes of someone else. It's every bit as wonderful as the photos show. And it looks like that all the time. Of course the other reason to buy it is in support of the controversial patchwork article. I guess being a California girl I'm not shocked by the quilts but I can imagine that some people are. Mark has a post on his blog talking about this issue, and I urge you to check it out. Also worth checking out is the good article on applique glues and the article on snark. I love the witty conversational nature of the magazine, and of course just want to say things like "All righty, poodles" and "by the way tadpoles". Because I'm like that.
Lastly, my Agatha Raisin book. Man I love village mysteries and Aggie is one of the best. Ok, time to fire up the sewing machine. See ya poodles!

OH MY...

GOSH FLIGHT OF FANCY IS DONE. Neither picture is any good, I just got two before it fell in a heap on the floor. No good light at the dungeon in spite of the sunny weather outside.

It has a bit a poof in the center, so I might rethink quilting it myself and turn it over to the amazing Diana to take care of for me. She did such a nice job on Elizabeth's original quilt.
Finally. I bet you never thought you'd see the end of that project! Have a happy day peeps!

Bubblicious

Hey lookie here at what showed up in the mail at my house! Its Barbara's new line of fabric Bubblegum Basics from Henry Glass! Barbara graciously shared a little bundle with me and it's really happiness on fabric. It's so cheerful that I can't wait to cut into it, but then I also love how nice this little pile looks, so ahhh I'm crazy. Thanks for sharing with me Barbara!!!
Really, some days I can' t imagine that I'd be any luckier than I am now, meeting new quilty peeps all the time, sewing on fresh fun new fabrics before you can even get them in stores, and being a part of something I love.
Have a wonderful week lovely peoples!
