O. M. G.

I think I have three good sized quilts in here.. not quite queen sized. In the past I have been a bit of an over achiever when it comes to making bed sized quilts. This is my new plan for storing some of them in a more efficient and dust free way. Space Bags.
I'm curious.. how do you store stuff that's not in use? I have plenty laying around the house that we use for lounging around, and on beds, not to mention things stacked up because it's cute.. but that doesn't cover all of them.
And what about stuff that's just not your style anymore? What do you do with those? I made shop samples for years, I have a timeline of quilt styles out there. I'd love to hear what you're doing. Because seriously people, I need help.

Ok, back to work. xo

hee hee! I love space bags. But be careful where you stuff them. I had one under the bed and it must have had a leak. It puffed back up and I couldn't get it out! I had to have DH lift the bed so I could get the bag out.

Since so much work goes into a quilt, I would rather give them away or donate to a good fundraising cause than sell them. I like Ronald McDonald house, women's shelters, and the like.

I too use space bags and rotate my collection through the seasons just like decorations.

I mentioned before that I use some to help hold up the cushons on my couch, but truth be told, I don't have that many quilts.

Let's see. I have none on my bed (I KNOW!!!)

I made Regina one that she got for Christmas, but she wanted it ON TOP of the one I used as a tween/teen that my mom bought me, the quilt my mom MADE me that's also twin sized is on her box spring as a "bed skirt"

Hazel was given one to play with, so that one spends time in the car for when we go to the park (or when its REALLY COLD and mommy has to go to work but didn't pre-warm the car, and the two toddler sixe quilts are in the dress up box because they are great capes (have I mentioned my oldest is 4 1/2?

The rest are on their way to Seattle Childrens Hospital or friends houses. (oh, I always have one on the back of the couch for when it gets chilly)

I'm interested in reading what everyone else comments, because mine keep piling up in cupboards, drawers, closets and beds. The space bags look like a great idea.

Your quilt looks like it's in a cocoon and needs to be rescued! Or maybe it'll turn into a butterfly soon. And fly straight to my house!! I'll help you with your quilt storage - mi casa es su closet.

The local community shelter could probably use some. The weekend b4 Christmas one of my high school friends and her family returned home to a house fire. They lost everything. When donations were taken atthe fairgrounds people brought quilts along with all sorts of clothing, etc.

I give so many away that I haven't had this problem yet. I have some seasonal ones that I rotate, but it was only in the last year that all the beds had a quilt.

I love making quilts as gifts and for charity. You could sell them or give them away and make someone whose talents lie elsewhere very happy.

I have this problem too. I have a guest bath and since my guest bedroom has been taken over as a sewing room, I don't need the bathroom to be usable. The tub is filled with quilts, the shower curtain bar is hung with wall hangings and the toilet is piled with table runners. Occasionally I have to get in there and run a little water or flush so the pipe traps don't dry out. I also do a lot of models for the shop I work at and once a year the shop has a staff boutique for us to sell things we have made. It is held between Thanksgiving and Christmas and our customers look forward to it for gift items, etc. Smaller items seem to sell better than big quilts. If it's the right size and something I'm not too attached to, I will donate it to our local QOV group or Linus but so many of them I still love!

The only quilt I have is the very first one I ever made. The rest I give away. If I were you I would do the same - gifts or donations for a cause/auction or charity quilts. Come on, you can do it!

I give a lot of quilts away when they are no longer my style.
Donating them just makes me happy. I am sure you can find places right in your area that would be happy to have them.
Womens shelter, retirement homes, ask your church or call the social worker at the local hospital...
I also made lots of shop samples so I know what you mean.
